Running VLC on an eMac

Sorry, but I've only got half the picture here. I have a friend who has
a friend who is trying to get VLC running on an eMac. Apparently VLC
wont start up and does not give any error messages.

Any ideas? I have no details of the eMac. Just though I'd ask.

I have an eMac, and VLC runs on it. Which version of VLC is he using, which
version of the OS, how much RAM does he have, and what else is running?
