Mac::Carbon installation woes

Hi folks,

Some late night reading of the latest Perl Journal got led me to try
installing Mac::Carbon, on the road to installing Mac::Glue. Trouble
ensued...

I'm running OS 10.3.8 with Xtools 1.5,  GCC 3.3, and Perl 5.8.0

Whether I use the CPAN shell or try a manual installation I get the
following error on make:

make[1]: *** No rule to make target `../xsubpps/typemap', needed by
`AppleEvents.c'.  Stop.
make: *** [subdirs] Error 2

The list archives and Google both point to an earlier thread from
April which referenced the same error but had no clear resolution.

Has anyone else seen this?

Thanks,
Sergej

I just tried with perl 5.8.0, and yeah, I see it too.  It was a change in
the build scripts for version 0.72, and I have a fix.  You could try 0.71,
or wait for 0.73 to come out soon, or update ExtUtils::MakeMaker (though I
have no idea if that might cause other problems, so I wouldn't personally
recommend it).

0.72 and 0.73 have only build fixes, except for a small feature addition in
0.72, so there's really no great reason to wait for 0.73.

Thanks,

Chris,

I was just about to write to thank you for confirming the problem and
offering a work-around when I noticed you already went ahead and
corrected it in an update to Mac::Carbon! Thanks so much!

Regards,
Sergej
