Is there a program that I can use to record radio programs that has a timer
to preset like a VCR?

There's a news talk show every weekday morning which I like to listen to but
don't always manage to get up in time to listen to it so something like that
would work wonders for me...

That looks promising.  I'll give it a try.

Thanks...

In addition to the RadioShark answer you already got, consider looking
into whether or not the program is offered as a podcast.  Going off your
email, I'm going to guess that you're listening to a CBC show, so see if
it's listed here:

http://www.cbc.ca/podcasting/

I'm partial to Quirks & Quarks, but hopefully your show can be found
there, too.

My personal UDP list: 127.0.0.1, localhost, googlegroups.com, ono.com,
   and probably your server, too.

VLC can record streams with scheduling.

Quirks & Quarks is good stuff.  I think I like BBC "Naked
Scientists" out of the UK even more

And don't forget the ABC Radio National "Science Show" (as in
Australlia)
<http://www.abc.net.au/rn/scienceshow/>

The "Current Science and Technology Podcast" from the Museum of
Science, Boston

The "Redshift Report", from the Ontario Science Centre (although
it has been rather quiet lately)
