I am test driving a McAlley Bluetooth mouse on a OSX 10.5.2 powered

when using MT-NW 3.5.

Anyone know what's going on?

Just a hunch, but likely it's the same issue as when you posted about
the same error code last November:

Thank you for the reminder and link to the definition that says

error -1857 dragNotAcceptedErr: handler not found

and I still don't know what that means.  Guess I will just have to use
something other than the Macalley BT mouse to read MT-NW messages.

It means MT-NewsWatcher looked at what was being dragged and did not
find what it considered to be acceptable content for that window. I'm
sure the fix for this bug involved tweaking just what sort of content
MT-NewsWatcher looks for in dragged items.

Very interesting..... I just upgraded MT-NW from 3.5.3b1 to 3.5.3b2 and
the error is history!  The Macalley BT mouse is working with MT-NW

Thanks to all for the help!

Oh, if I had simply read the original thread I doubt I would have the
slightest recollection.  However, the fact that I not only posted to the
thread but did a Google search on behalf of the OP anchored it in my
mind.

Thanks for the reminder.  At that time I thought it may be caused by have
one of my OSX mouse settings too high. The temp fix was to change the
setting. I then developed another problem with the right-click sticking
and the Apple Store replaced the Mighty Mouse as it did the same thing
on their Mac.

I have no issues with the Apple Mighty Mouse.  It works fine with MT-NW.
The issue error code -1857 seems to be unique to the the Macalley BT
Mouse.

I have messed with all of the Leopard Mouse settings, including the
latest new Macally Input Manager v1.2, and the only solution I have
found it use the Apple Mighty Mouse with MT-NW. 3.5.3b1 and to
forget about using the Macalley BT Mouse.

I'm seeing the same thing in Thoth as of my upgrade to OS X 10.5.

What's happening is that you're dragging slightly on an aticle name and
releasing in the same window, and for some reason it's throwing that
error.

Interesting that it's happening in both MTNW and Thoth... Brian Clark
swears there's no common code between the two.

It might be a system error.

By the way, I can't duplicate the problem; I dragged an article name and
released it in the same window; all that happened was that the outline
snapped back to the starting point.

It's definitely a Mac OS error code.

You're using MT-NewsWatcher/3.5.3b2  and the OP is using 3.5.3b1... I
wonder if there was a fix between versions.

Crap.  I'm apparently using 3.5.2 and see this error.  I thought I had
installed the beta.  BRB!  :)

Sure enough, after upgrading to 3.5.3 beta, the error is gone. So I
suppose MT-NewsWatcher has the bug fixed, while Thoth does not. Perhaps
Brian can ask Simon nicely for the fix. *grin*

So we're back to wondering why two programs with supposedly no common
code both had the same error as the result of a Mac OS upgrade.

With apologies to The Monotones, I present a humble offering:

That is simple, because they BOTH have to use the SAME System Calls,
and they BOTH used the SAME Parameter in that call, and the System change
cause that Call, with that Parameter, to BREAK......Duh......

Nope. I've written Mac applications long enough to know the probable
causes of this particular Drag Manager error. Like I said, this is
likely a bug in the code that examines the content of the drag.

Okay, but now explain how the same action in other programs doesn't give
the same error message, and that includes other newsreaders.

I only have the problem with the MacAlley BT mouse.  No issue with the
Apple mouse.  I cannot read any MT-NW postings using the MacAlley mouse
and just installed their Macally Input Manager v1.2.dmg

And the reason you don't suspect that the solution might just possibly
be the same as the one you came up with when you had this problem in
November is what exactly?

No because in Nov the problem was a defective Apple Mighty Mouse that
was fixed when the Apple Store exchanged the defective mouse for a new
mouse.

i just obtained the Macalley BT Mouse from a friend and it gives me the
error code -1857 ONLY when I try to click on a MT-NW message.  It is
100% repeatable.

Do you know what error -1857 means?

In November, you yourself told us, based on the error code list I found
and posted for you, that it means:

error -1857 dragNotAcceptedErr: handler not found

You also posted that the solution was:

"I had the Mouse Sys Prefs double-click option set to fastest up against
the right peg.  When i moved it to between 1/2 and 3/4 scale, no more
errors and that solved the double-click issues."

You concluded by stating:

"My advice for anyone that reads this is to check you Mouse option and
do not run it at MAX."

So, again I ask, the reason you don't suspect that the solution
might just possibly be the same as the one you came up with when you had
this problem in November is what exactly?  Have you checked the same
setting that fixed the problem last time and determined already that it
won't fix the problem again this time?

My mouse Double-Click setting is set to three *under* the fastest notch,
and I get this error any time I drag an article in a MT-NewsWatcher
window.

It happens here with the trackpad, and a Microsoft Explorer mouse.

I just tried it for myself with MT-NW, and it happens here as well, with
a Kensington TurboMouse trackball and with standard old single-button
Apple optical mouse I have lying around.

It was 3.5.2 which I just happened to have on hand.  Now I've just
downloaded 3.5.3b2 and there's no error.

It's a Carbon error:

dragNotAcceptedErr = -1857, /* drag was not accepted by receiver */

Well, as you've probably seen by now, it's fixed in MTNW 3.5.3 beta.
