Is it possible to get attachments to show up in the header of an email
instead of the body of the email in mac mail. Operating system is OS
X.

Thanks for any insight.

I'm not even sure what that would mean. Can you clarify what you're
trying to accomplish?

He doesn't want photos? showing inline with the message text.

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.

To reiterate and clarify... Outlook and Entourage puts email
attachment in the header area (below the subject line), Mac mail puts
email attachments in the body (text area) of the email. I am wondering
if it is possible to get email attachments to show up in the header
are (below the subject line) in Mac mail.

Attachments are both at the bottom of the message and right below the
addressees in the header.  There is a disclosure triangle to the left of
the notice of the attachment, and a Save button to the right of the
notice.

Michelle,

Thanks for the insight. I see the the disclosure triangle for
attachments you mention in the emails I receive but for the emails I
send the attachments only show up in the body of the email and not
below the addresses in the header. It's like I need to change a
preference but can't find the preference to change. Any other ideas
you have would be appreciated.

I didn't realize that you meant mail that you're composing.  The short
answer is that you can't do it.

You _can_ do it, although not quite the way the OP is talking about.
Right-click or Control-click on the graphic, select View as Icon.

It still shows up in the content section of the message. The icons of
all attachments do.

Yeah, that's what I meant about not quite the way the OP is talking
about.  Of course, something that needs to be pointed out is that none
of this is relevant to what the recipient sees anyway, since that's a
function of that person's mail client and how it's set.

Thanks for the insight on "view as icon". I can live with that.

if it just the graphic display and space occupancy that bugs you, zip
the files to attach

Except for images, they always show up as an icon for me.

I also find these icons annoying, because they mess up the line spacing
while you're composing.  If it would just automatically put it on a line
by itself it wouldn't be so bad.

Ah, I see. When you add attachments to a message you want them to show
up in a segregated area at the top of the window, rather than inline
wherever you chose to place them.

I don't know of any way to accomplish this. If it's really an issue
nothing stops you from inserting the attachments before the first line
of message text, and that would be functionally very similar. You do
realize, though, that Outlook and Entourage only do that for the benefit
of the sender, right? They don't really have significant control over
what the recipient's mail program is going to show.
