Wireless for iBook G3

I have inherited an oldish iBook G3 (700MHz) with a 12"display. This little
machine is really handy and due to its small size can be brought everywhere.
I would like to add wireless capability to it but have noticed that the
original Airport card for this machine is hard to find. The couple of places
where I found it sell it for well over $150.
Is there any other option? Perhaps something that can be plugged into the USB
port? I basically would like the iBook to pick up wireless signals at
airports, etc. although the actual throughput is not so important to me (I
don't need anything like Airport Extreme or similar).

Thanks,

Paolo

I have a 600Mhz ibook g3 I'm typing this on.  It has the original
Airport card I paid about $100 for or so about 2 years ago.

USB wireless network interfaces are the way to go for cost
effectiveness.   you'd have to think a used airport is ebayable though
with folks retiring aging g3's though.

Which has me wondering why Small Dog has it listed for sale for $169.
Huh!?

I guess because they're discontinued but still in fairly high demand.
Economics 101.  :-)

Some suggested eBay, but they're selling for well over $100 there, too.

Aye. I bought an Airport card for my G3 iBook about a year ago. I was
distinctly miffed that it cost substantially more than the G4 equivalent
(which also does 54MB speeds), but years of experience have shown me
that that is often the way it goes when buying addons for older kit.

Airport cards are all over the place. Many Mac online sellers have them
and they're always on eBay.

That's true, but the prices have shot up recently.  The online sellers
are asking at least $150, and on eBay it appears you can't get them for
less than $120.
