Although to be fair part of the reason you're running out of disk space is that you don't have enough memory. 128MB is nowhere near enough to run Mac OS X so you are spilling swapfiles onto your hard disk like crazy, and that's taking up some of the room. Still, Mike is exactly right. You should try to have several GB free at all times. m.

Speaking of disk space, when I upgraded to Tiger the OS was added to the existing one and used up 3 more GB to install. Didn't really notice but I assume I can wipe the disk, then reinstall Tiger and use only the 3 it requires?
I'm not dangerously full yet but I'm getting there...

If you're sure that you have everything you need from the old system, you can trash the Previous Systems folder.

Hmmm, never thought about that. I don't really need the OS-9 either and that would go with it right?

OS-9 is more likely to be needed as the system folder for any Classic apps you might conceivably run.

Just to follow this, to dump the original OS-X & 9, what folders to I delete to leave only Tiger?

Somewhere on your hard drive you should find a folder called Previous Systems. You can get rid of anything in that folder, and you'll eliminate all vestiges of your earlier versions of OSX. I've never bothered to trash OS 9 on any of my machines (in fact, I go out of my way to install it on new machines), so I can't tell you for sure what to trash there.

It's silly to dump OS9 since it is taking up very little space and you *might* need it. Previous Systems is huge and you know for a fact that you don't need it, so that's worth deleting. m.

Guess the OS-9 isn't all that big of a deal when it comes to space. But I've only got Tiger & 9 installed now and seems to take up over 6 GB of space. Other than Hogwasher, that's all which I've added. Can't be right can it?

Can't be right can it? Aha, now you're asking a new question: "What's taking up all the space?" To find out, download and use Disk Inventory X. It's terrific at this. m.
