How to check airport antenna in clamshell iBook?

Hi,

This is about an iBook G3 300MHz model 406 (clamshell). I have added
recently an Airport card inside it. Problem: the range is about 2 meters
from the wifi router. Short, isn't it? within that range the connection is
OK, so I guess the software is OK.

I tried with a PC, it gets a very good signal in every room of my
appartment.
I therefore suspect there's something wrong either with the Airport card
(bought on eBay, sold as being new) or with the antenna inside the iBook.

Am I correct in this? or could there be another source  for the problem?

Then how can I check this? Is it useful / difficult / documented how to
disassemble the iBook to check the antenna connections?

It's far more likely that the antenna's just not fully plugged into the
Airport card.  The actual antenna is not likely to fail, but it'd be
easy to think it was fully plugged into the card when it wasn't.  It's
also possible that the card itself is not fully seated in its slot.
