Tiger-iTunes-Airport-Rendezvous problem

I am using an AirPort Express as a bridge between a wired and wireless
network.  I have a Powerbook (wireless) and a G4 desktop (wired).  My
internet connection comes in through a Linksys router to which I have
an AirPort Express connected to create a wireless network.  Before
installing Tiger on the desktop machine, I was able to connect to my
iTunes library on the desktop from the PowerBook.  Now that I have
installed Tiger and iTunes 5, I am no longer able to.  I am aware of
the "Radio" button bug in iTunes 5 but I have made sure that Radio is
enabled on both iTunes.  I am also not able to see one machine to the
other's Network browser but am about to connect with Appleshare if I
manually enter the IP address of the other machine.  In short, it
appears to me that Rendezvous is not detecting the wired machine from
the wireless network and vice versa, but it was working perfectly
before upgrading to Tiger and iTunes5.  Any ideas?  I haven't seen this
problem documented in any support forum anywhere.  Thanks,

Jason

There is a solution to your problem.  Using:
Applications -> Utilities -> Airport Admin Utility -> Network tab
turn _OFF_ "Distribute IP addresses".

This will change your Airport Express from a router into a bridge
between WiFi and the ethernet.

The Rendezvous protocol (Boujour now, or zeroconf to the rest of
the world) is specifically designed _NOT_ to cross a router.  That
is to say, routers will not forward Rendezvous packets between
networks.

So your Powerbook and G4 desktop can not see each other via
Rendezvous when they are on opposites sides of a router.

Turning off "Distribute IP addresses" turns off the router
functions in the Airport Express and allows your Linksys to be the
only router in your home.  This is goodness and you will like the
results much better this way.

By the way, I do the same think in my home.

Bob-

Thanks for your reply, I should have tried that.  I'll try it when I
get home today but it sounds like it will work for sure.  So is it as
of Tiger that Bonjour will no longer cross a router?  Because prior to
upgrading the desktop to Tiger, there was no problem.

Thanks again for such a clear solution!
