What is the best way to view PPT files using OS-X (2.8)? I've tried
unsuccessfully with icWord and just about blew up my machine installing
it. Don't know exactly what happened, but it sure didn't like it...

icWord Installed fine for me on OS X 10.4. Maybe there is some
incompatibility with OS X 10.2? I don't know.
You can also get a copy of PowerPoint for Mac OS X, and use that. of
course that costs $$$.

Best bet's probably Powerpoint, but it's not cheap.
You might also try this, based on the OpenOffice.org project:

Speaking of overpriced, take MS office and power point for instance.
iWork is much easier to use and the graphics are much better.

You could try NeoOffice/J
http://www.neooffice.org/
Of course you could buy Microsoft Office.

Apple's Keynote should read the powerpoint file.
And it's a much better piece of software, to boot!

Great program but hasn't been updated to Universal binary - won't run on
intel Macs.

The iWork package is good, but overpriced, as usual, from Apple. For
$99 you can get the package which licenses 5 computers in the same
household. At $20 a machine, the price is right. I guess you're paying
for ease of use - it is easy to use - and for all those great preset,
cinema-quality graphics tools.

Dennis-
Have you checked the Microsoft web site,
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/? They have a PowerPoint 98 viewer
available for Macintosh.

Keynote, which is part of the $80 iWork package, can open, display, modify,
and save PowerPoint files.
