Auto re-connect for dropped streaming video connection?

I've got a decent DSL connection, but occasionally it drops and I have to
re-connect to it. This is with Windows Media Player (OS X).

Similar to wget command used in Terminal to fetch a file, I'd like some means
to automatically re-connect to a video stream when it disconnects.

Does there exist such a means? Or some way to create such a means?

Thanks,

ask a question here if I hadn't done that already.

Thus spake DaveC:

To clarify: whenever the Windows Media Player's streaming connection is
interrupted, immediately reconnecting to the URL reestablishes the link.

Just blue-skying:
Some way to monitor the network connection for these conditions:
1) packet activity
2) no activity

In the case of 1), execute a script that would connect to a Favorite link in
Windows Media Player.

Ideas on how to do this? Other suggestions?
