G3 (beige) networking problem

I've lost the ability to connect to other macs on my network from
this computer.  Whenever I open chooser, as soon as I click on
another computer, this computer(G3) locks up.  Force Quit doesn't
work.  I must restart.  I think the ethernet card is working
properly, because I can get into the G3 from other computers using
chooser.  And I can use CuteFTP to access the internet with the G3.
I just can't select other computers from this one.

You didn't say what operating system.

I had a PPC Mac do that to me some years back and it turned out to be
a corrupted chooser.  Replacing the chooser with a back up or from the
installer did the trick.

I'm using OS 8.5.  I'll try replacing the chooser.  Thanks
