Good/supported wireless PC Card for TiBook/Tiger

Ok. I've been struggling with a few things since upgrading to Tiger. Two
problems are with my wireless networking. A week prior to upgrading, I
bought a D-Link DI-624 router and a DWG-G650X PC Card. They worked fine
under Panther. As soon as I upgraded the OS:

1. Constantly getting dropped connections to the Internet. My work laptop (a
Windows XP system) does not experience drops.

2. The PC Card won't work at all. No lights. Nothing.

I just saw the posts about shortening the computer name to something less
than 6 characters so I've tried that. We'll see if it has any effect on
problem 1.

As for problem 2, it seems I'm just hosed. D-Link won't say if or when a
Tiger-compatible driver will be available. *sigh*

This is an original 17" TiBook so the Airport Extreme PC Card won't work in
it according to Apple. (I read it on their web site somewhere if I remember
correctly.) Is there another 802.11b/g PC Card option that will work
reliably on this TiBook running Tiger?

Well, changing the computer name didn't do anything for problem 1. :( So I
guess pointers to a good/supported wireless router is in order also.

There were other suggestions in the original macfixit.com post (and in
responses to that post).  One was to create a new location - just fill
in the same stuff you had in the old one.  This worked for me after the
Tiger upgrade(not a D-Link problem but a dropped connection problem).

Others solved the DiLink problem by re-entering the DNS server
addresses into the TCP/IP Network panel.

The tech specs of the Original 17" TiBook specify that it uses Airport
Extreme, and the Airport Extreme page at the Apple store doesn't
exclude early 17" TiBooks - or did I miss something?

You might check out macwireless.com for non-Airport cards.

the "original" 17" PpoerBook (1GHz) has factory built in Airport Extreme.
It's not a user installable part, so maybe it is not an Airport Extreme
card in there (no slot provided as in the early 12" or 15" Alu
PowerBooks).
Are you looking for a card for the TiBook (which is always a 15"
Titanium) or a 17" PowerBook?

Cheers
Andreas (typing this on a PB 17" 1GHz, using Airport Extreme)

Andreas is correct - there are no 17" TiBooks - the 17" powerbooks are
all Al.  The TiBooks all used Airport cards.
