Linksys BEFSR41 ver.2 4 Port Router Firmware Upgrade Question

I am currently running the original (now pretty old) firmware I got
with my Linksys BEFSR41 ver.2 4 Port Router -- v.1.42.7  (April 2002)

I've never had a problem with this router and everything is running
fine, so I'm a little leery of messing around with a steup that
works...

Are there substantial benefits to upgrading the firmware to the current
version (v1.46.2) that should cause me to consider it?  And if so, once
a new firmware version is installed, will I have to reset all of my
current settings?  or will they remain afterward...?

Thanks for any advice you can offer...

(If it matters, I'm running OS X 10.3.8 on a 1.25 dp G4).

if it works fine, why change anything?

there is a readme included with the firmware (and you can also read it
seperately at linksys.com) that lists the changes.  if something listed
applies to you, then it might be worth updating.  but if, as you say,
everything is fine, then why bother.

as for resetting settings, generally it is a good idea to reset them
when doing an upgrade because the new firmware might store something
slighly differently than the old firmware, but usually you can just
update it and the settings will continue to work.  where this really
becomes a problem is with the linksys wrt54g and its collection of
custom firmwares and switching between different ones...
