Cannot Connect TiBook to Linksys Router -- Help!

I'll readily admit to not being an expert in the nuances of wireless
connections, so I'm posting here hoping for a solution.....

We have two Macs, an AlBook and a TiBook, both of which connect to the
internet via an Airport / Linksys setup. The internal drive of the TiBook has
become too small and I am attempting to configure that TiBook to boot from an
external firewire drive. At this moment that external drive has just OS X
10.3.9 installed. When I boot the TiBook from that external and then attempt
to connect to the internet I first select the network (the same as for the
AlBook and the TiBook when booted off of the internal drive) I am then asked
for the network password. When I enter the password I receive an error
message stating that the password is incorrect. I have checked the keychain
of the AlBook and it shows the same password that the TiBook reports is in
error. I have checked the Linksys Administration utility and the password
there is also the same as I have entered.

So....

The question is "What am I not doing that I should be doing?"

Many thanks for advice and/or suggestions and even well-deserved bonks on the
head.

There are some Linksys routers that require you to type the $ (dollar
sign, shift-4) character into the password field before you start typing
the actual password. Try it and see what happens.

Many thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately it didn't help. If I
started the password with a dollar sign things went "funny" and I could only
type another couple of characters in the password field.

You could try resetting the router - check the web for instructions -
but you can return the hardware to its factory default settings.

I'm wondering if the router may have already been accidentally reset and
the password has returned to the default. This has happened to me
before. Either way, your solution should work.

At this moment I have both the TiBook and AlBook communicating to the
internet via the Linksys router. This was accomplished by disabling the
security from WPA Personal. If the WPA was reinstated the same problem arose,
the TiBook couldn't communicate but the AlBook could. Weird!

Is the the TiBook still running 10.2?

Some Wi-Fi networks may offer two other security options: WPA Personal
and WPA Enterprise. (Click here for the lowdown on WEP versus WPA.)
Unfortunately, only OS X 10.3 supports WPA; if you're using an earlier
OS, you won't be able to log on."

communicate via the Linksys when WPA Personal security was set]

Both of the computers, the TiBook and the AlBook, are running OS X 10.3.9.
What is so weird is that it is always the TiBook that has the problems, never
the AlBook.

Use the hex representation.  It's been consistent for me
(Linksys/Airport).
