trying to do this on the cheap for a youg friend.
Mac is an older Mac that is a gift.
Win 98 PC is remote by wireless.
(actually a USB wireless adapter.)
Mac does not have a PCI slot nor USB.
The Mac does have ethernet connector.
so PC is wireless.
NIC card of the both computers are free.
If a router is attached to the ethernet card (NIC) of the PC ( which
has the wireless PC connection) will it share the internet connection
with the Mac ?
trying not to use a bridge for cost reasons.
thank you

This is all very confusing. Let's start at the beginning. What type of
internet access are we talking about in the first place? I take it it's
DSL or cable and the PC is accessing it by WiFi. Is this correct? I
also take it that there's already a WiFi router. Is also correct? If
so, can you just connect an ethernet cable between the router and Mac?

What ethernet card? I thought you said that the PC has wireless, not
ethernet. Does it have both?

Win98 might have built-in ICS -- I'm not sure whether that was first
bundled in Win98 or Win2K. You're probably better off asking in a
Windows newsgroup.

You already have a router, so why don't you just connect the Mac to one
of its Ethernet ports?
Maybe if you showed a diagram of the network I'd be less confused.

Please explain, slowly, clearly, the following:
1 how is the Windows machine connected to the Internet?
2 how is the Windows machine connected to the local network?
3 how is the Mac connected to the Internet?
4 how is the Mac connected to the local network?
5 is there a wireless router?
6 is there a wired router?
7 what kind of Internet connection is available?
8 how many machines, in total, are you talking about here?
We don't know what you're using.
