I posted this on comp.sys.mac.system and realized it probably should
have gone to the hardware group. Here goes:
Around 5 I plugged my iPod Nano into my MacBook Pro to charge it. Went
downstairs to do some laundry and came back up about 7:30. The iPod said
"charged," but when I woke my MBP up, the whole screen had multicolored
squares and rectangles all over it (sort of like a scotch plaid
pattern). My connected Apple Cinema Display
had an eerie dark red glow. I shut down with control-eject, restarted,
and now all is normal again. I guess I need to buy an iPod charger,
since I don't want this to happen again. Has this happened to any of you
out there?

I doubt the iPod charging had anything to do with this. There are all
sorts of reports of display artefacts with recent Macbook Pros on the
Apple Support forums. In fact, I recall that there is a specific
problem with laptops having external monitors.
