It is mostly due to dirt and finger slime gumming up the optical encoders
inside the mouse..... Been a problem from the get go..... I used windex
on mine and then rolled the Trackball VIGOROUSLY, back and forth in the
direction that it wasn't working, fixed it for a couple of months each
time, untill it finally failed completely......

Only the trackball roller mechanism is a badly designed piece of sh.t.
The rest of the mouse seems fine.
