Software. Have you updated to Leopard or even OS X 10.4.11? My WiFi got
unreliable about a week after updating to Leopard (totally reliable
under Tiger). The Apple forums mentioned variations on Wifi as a common
complaint. Too early to say I have a cure, but I stuck the IP address of
my ISPs DNS into my router, and haven't had any trouble since.
Hardware. See if one of the Elec Eng students can fix it, or wants it
for experimenting.

Try relocating the base station. There might be a source of interference
in its current location now that wasn't there previously. Also, look for
channel conflicts.
