What's the last OS X to run CLASSIC?

I still have a DUAL BOOT Mac.

What's the best way to upgrade to the newest OS X and still be able to
EITHER RUN CLASSIC OR BOOT into OS 9?

Should I keep OS 9 in the SAME partition, or move OS 9 to it's own
partition?

Thanks!

_Any_ OS X can run OS 9.2.x. - It is the computer itself that sets the
limit. This means that any G3, G4 and G5 with a PPC based proseccor
architecture will be able to run OS 9.2.x either in a booted OS 9.2 or
as 'classic mode' under OS X.

All new Intel based Macs do not have this capability - neither 'classic
mode' nor OS 9.2 bootability.

I have 2x QuickSilver, which I have upgraded with GigaDesigns Dual
G4/1,8ghz processors with the capability of booting in both OS 9.2 and OS X.

Depending on which machine you have, you can upgrade the processor and
fill it with RAM. - Fx. if you have a G4 AGP model with UNINorth ASICS
number 7 or higher, you can upgrade to either a dual G4/1,8ghz or a
single G4/2.0ghz processor. The G4 MDD can only be upgraded to a single
G4/1,33ghz. The dual G4 versions of MDD cannot be CPU upgraded AFAIK.

The best upgrades are - priorityrized
1, GigaDesigns
2, PowerLogix PowerForce47 Series
3, OWC Mercury Extreme
4, NewerTech, MAXPower
4, FastMac
5, Sonnet

You can see more here - just select your model, CPU upgrade and see what
you can use...

NOTE. If your computer isn't well-equipped with memory - more than 1gb
of RAM, at least 1-2 harddisks, a good graphics card and maybe one or
more PCI cards, I don't think it will be affordable.

This means - if you fx. have an old Sawtooth G4/400mhz, 512mb RAM,
40-80gb HD and the orig. Rage 128Pro card, I won't recommend an upgrade,
- it will be too expensive. But if you fx. have a QuickSilver 733-867mhz
or a Dual 800mhz, 1,5gb RAM, 1-2 120gb HDs, GForce 2MX/4MX, Radeon
9000/9000Pro or similar graphics card, my recommendation will be that an
upgrade is affordable, - especially if you need the capability of being
able to boot into Os 9.2.2.

I believe it is not related to the version of OS X; rather, it depends
on your CPU.  As long as you have a PowerPC CPU you can probably keep
the classic folder indefinitely.  I have 104.8 myself.
