One of my Macs, a non-iSight-equipped G5 iMac had its internal drive die
today. I took it to my local Apple Store and they tried to convince me
that I needed to spend $200 for them to install a newer, bigger drive.

But I've read that the non-iSight iMacs are easy to replace drives so
I'd like to do it myself.

I found a webpage with instructions
<http://www.dtgeeks.com/index.php/features/tutorialview/imac_g5_hard_dri
ve_replacement/> but it doesn't say specifically WHAT KIND of drive I
need.

Any recommendations under $80?

It's for my daughter's use, and she doesn't need a big drive.

Thanks.

Well, they would say that.

It is easy.  Which is all the more frustrating that Apple proved their
consumer models could be designed to be easily user serviceable, then on
the very next model, cynically made it a pain in the arse again for
seemingly no good reason.

A 3.5" SATA, i.e. not IDE.

That should get you a 250 gig.
