Finder problem?

My Finder browser window occasionally disappears along with the desktop
files, and then reappears again. Also, Force Quit won't work. There's
also a clicking sound upon startup. I have DisWarrior; will that help?
I'm running a G4 Dual.

In general use, this is often caused by some plugin to the Finder
crashing. Look at the contents of /Library/Contextual Menu Items and
~/Library/Contextual Menu Items. One know culprit is an older version of
a StuffIt component.

What does "won't work" mean and how are you trying to invoke it?

> There's also a clicking sound upon startup.

Electrical/mechanical or something coming from the speaker?

> I have DisWarrior; will that help?

DiskWarrior rebuilds corrupted or inefficient directory structures. It's
an extremely useful tool but not really relevant to anything you've
described.

That could be it. I've had a warning from Little Snitch that StuffitAVR
has tried to alter the Finder. I've trashed that program.

In response to the spinning ball and I've used Option-Cmd-Esc. It's
happened mostly with Safari.

Electrical/mechanical alleviated by a restart (intermittant).

Thanks!

When you press Cmd-Opt-Esc, does the window not show up at all, does it
show up but you can't interact, something else?

I'd be worried about that. Keep an eye, er ear, on it.

It doesn't show at all. It's working now, but it was intermittant
before, so I expect it may happen again. Again, the only odd happenings
recently is the StuffitAVR alert, which I've fixed by deleting that
file (program) -- Stuffit AVR. The noise may be related toi heat
because it hasn't happened since I cleaned out the filter in the front
bottom of the computer, although there wasn't too much lint there. I'm
running a G4 Dual (mirrored doors). The noise is a click, repeated.

Launch Disk Utility, and select your boot drive in the left hand column.
What does it say after S.M.A.R.T. Status on the bottom of the window?
