I have an iMac DV running OSX, currently there is an Airport card
installed in the PC Card adapter
(http://www.ciao.co.uk/Apple_Computer_PC_Card_adapter__5433172).
However, I need the Airport card for my G3 Powerbook running OS9.

My question is, can I use the PC Card adapter with any old wifi card, or
am I restricted to using the Airport?

I would just jack one in and see what happens, but I thought I would ask
first.

The product is poorly described (and Apple's not the source of that
description). It's not a PC Card adaptor. It is an AirPort card adapter.
AirPort cards are physically similar with PC Cards but not electrically
interchangeable. The adapter you have was packaged with AirPort cards to
let them be installed in machines where the design made providing a
standard slot that was user-accessible impossible and isn't useful for
any other purpose.
