Got a dual 450 Mhz module at a fair price. The seller is a known
trustworthy dued on .dk NG's, so the cpu module most likely is ok.
My PowerMac G4 AGP 400 Mhz has the required min. ASICS 7.
Firmware is 4.2.8f-something. It's installed with 10.3.9 .
Having swapped the cpu for the dual 450, it starts booting, or rather,
the wheel spins for some time, then stops. Dang. Call the janitor.
Dual 450 still installed, I booted into the firmware, and entered
set-defaults<return>
reset-nvram<return>
reset-all<return>
after which the thingy booted saying "You need to reboot..." - which it
thought to be quite meaningful on every reboot. I didn't...
The Mac works fine when reinserting the old 400 module.
I then looked for firmware upgrades, and found the 4.4 one. Dunno if it
will solve my problems; couldn't install it anyways, as I'm not running
OS 9.1+, nor have OS 9 classic emulation (or what it's called).
Do note, I'm about converting from 9+ yrs of Linux, and don't have too
much experience with Mac's or OS X as yet, so have pity o my sou ;).

Kind regards,

I have a G4-AGP-400 that was upgraded to a G4-AGP-1GHz using a OWC drop
in processor upgrade. It has worked perfect for two years. My only
issue with the 1 GHz processor is the fan noise and it is not that bad.
I hate to break some bad news to you but I don't think you can drop in a
dual processor on a G4-400 that was pulled from another machine.
You may be able to buy a 3rd party dual processor upgrade for your G4
AGP but I don't think you can drop in an Apple dual module.
