And I'd use X like I need an ADB port in the back of my skull. I like
the 'classic' UI, the OSX one looks (and behaves) like it was designed
by some tripping-on-LSD gerbils in a jellybean factory.
(Old-timers will have heard my anti-OSX rants before :) and yes, I do
use OSX but I don't like it. And I still delete Terminal. There is
nothing I can do in OSX that I can't do in OS9. Or OS8. Or System 6, for
that matter.)

Yes, I've often said that myself, that 9.1 should be enough, that
anything after that is essentially "loaded with Classic compatibility
baggage" ... but it is not true.

Thank you to both people who replied, I've downloaded OS9 Helper, have
MacOS 9.2.2 running on a G3'd 7500 and it is faster, more stable and
more responsive than 9.1. And not a sign of OSX anywhere to be seen.

I concur with you Geoffrey. This is the first time (since 6.0.4) that
an upgrade hasn't been simple that: a step upwards. Sure there's some
useful stuff in OSX and it's still preferable to Windoze, but there's
so much it won't do.
I'm keeping my old PPC to run 9.2.2 (and doesn't it go!!)
