All of a sudden, my iChat user has stopped working. I fire up iChat
and it tells me I'm on, but none of my logged-in friends can see me
and I can see none of them.

It's an "expired" .mac account (I've never been a .mac member, I
signed up via iChat ages ago and never used the account for anything
else). It used to work on Jaguar then it suddenly stopped working
about a month ago and now it continues to not work on Panther.

I got a very nice message from support@mac.com saying basically
"bugger off, we don't do email support". Any clues?

Cheers, Robert.

Yeah, pay for .mac, or signup at www.aim.com for a free AIM ID.

Try creating a new trial account and see if that works, that will at
least tell you if it's your Mac or a problem with the account. If it's
the account, it's probably being fully "expired" (which would put a
lie to the claim that iChat remains usable ever after the .Mac trial
period runs out.)

In the end I gave up and created a new AIM account. Pain in the arse
though, I had to change my username.

Cheers, Robert.
