How can I burn a PC format CD under Panther's Finder burning?

I want to make a VCD to play in my DVD player but the player won't
recognise the disk I made.

www.macupdate.com - search for VCD Builder

I think the disks are inherently cross-platform. I spent hours in
utter frustration trying to figure out how to burn a PC format disk of
some AVI's for a friend, and in the end gave up, giving him an HFS
standard disk (which was a complex process involving making a disk
image in Disk Utility and burning that to the CD) then telling him to
get a copy of HFV explorer. Before he'd even downloaded HFV Explorer
to his PC, he'd mounted the "Mac" disk and copied the files off and
was wondering what I was going on about. Haven't tried an HFS+ format
disk yet.

As far as my friend could tell, his PC said the disk is an ISO disk,
but my eMac said it's a Mac OS Standard disk. Really, that's how it
should be, totally transparent. I think looking for "DOS format"
options is old school thinking, and we're trying to complicate things
on the least complicated OS available.

As I'm relatively new to X having only migrated from Classic a few
weeks ago, I'd appreciate some confirmation/correction.

From long and bitter coaster creation experience, it seems that CDRs
are OK if burnt from Finder, while DVD work on some non-Mac machines

as for your VCD problem, its possible that the disk layout was not VCD
standard

have a look at VCD Builder for help on that one

Some PCs seem incapable of reading UDF discs (DVD).
