To be a bit Jason-ish (sorry Jason), I am going to say
why-would-you-want-to-run-linux-when-you-could-be-running-10.3?!?
Mandrake generally is very easy to use as a Linux distro, a no-brainer
to install and has decent GUI for all system functions, once you find
them!
Compared to OSX, it feels completely disorganised and confusing, and if
you install something that mucks up the system, unless you're a *nix
guru you're going to be reinstalling from scratch.
The friends I have who run Yellowdog, Mandrake and Debian on their PPC
machines (of various vintages) seem quite happy with them, albeit they
have spent some time setting things up the way they want them.
:)

That's quite alright. I'm flattered ;)

Another thing to consider is that a lot of *nix open-source is being made available
via http://fink.sourceforge.net/
I use quite a few of the programs offered there.
