Hi,

I have  a Mac cube running Pather 10.3.1and was wondering with the Mac
renaming files seems to be a chore.

I am trying to rename (and sometimes move) my Itunes files as they are in
the wrong section/box.

I put the pointer over the file and it seems to take a lonnggg time before a
box appears to rename.

Is there another way?

Am I doing this wrong?

Double click?

I see there is no ³renaming²in the tool bar.

This would be easier, wouldn¹t it?

Any help please

Thanks.

Thanks for that one Jason.  I too am finding the Panther Finder slow
and quite annoying at times. BTW, is there any way to multiple-select
non sequential files, like the old shift-click did?? I don't seem to be
able to select two files without catching everything in between.  You
got a gizmo for that?  Sorry, not gizmo, widget - showing my age there.

Multiple select of no-contiguous files is cmd-click.  Shift click is
contiguous files (same as sys 9).

AhA!  Muchas gracias for that guys, I tried every other combination,
plus trying it while whistling Dixie.  Guess I was out of tune...

I got the Howto Train Panthers book on order, but of course it has to
come from Bloody Mars...

Thanks.  I HATE feeling like a Nube again!

I find it's cheaper and faster to order books/DVDs from Amazon than from the local
ripoff merchants :D

Try Powell's in Oregon, good for compubooks and they haven't lost an
order of mine yet. Amazon IS Mars, and they've ignored 2 orders of
mine. UNSW bookshop is pretty good, and we (estudiantes) get a discount
(if we're patient).

n00b schnube

Use the command (apple) key, clicking on each file you want to group.

Quick as I am to leap to Panther's defence, this is one of the most
frustrating aspects of the post-classic world, that and having to
command-shift-n for a new folder and command-l instead of m for an
alias. If there's a fix for these I'll be eternally indebted* to the
provider.

JTS, I loathe for the most part going back to the old 7600 in the
rumpus room when the missus is using the eMac.

* metaphorically, anyway.

Why not just customize the toolbar? drag the new folder icon to it?

Easy...

Create a shortcut for "New Folder" in the Finder using the new
Keyboard settings tab. Edit
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist and search for "New
Folder". Copy the entry (it's 2 lines) and rename one to "New Finder
Window". Finally, remove the $ from the key part of the New Folder
entry.

You need both entries there or Finder refuses to use the shortcuts.
Cmd-N is now New Folder and Cmd-Shift-N is New Finder Window.
