hi: I have a mate with a G4 OSX m/c and he wants to move to Broadband /
ADSL , whatever .
He asked me for some advice , so I thought  I'd ask here for
pointers.(sorry but Im a winXP user ).
viz...Modem type ??
ISP ???
costs and service ??
I think he'd be happy with anything that's faster than dial up , and cost
is a priority.
Any one have any experiences good / bad ??
BTW he's in Sydney metro.
TIA...George

modem - anything with ethernet interface, avoids drivers/USB etc
ISP - anything really.... I know that iinet supports macs, albeit a
little amateurishly.....

costs/service - varies, shop around

good experience with iinet and a cheap dynalink modem with my G3 imac

Netgear DG814 ADSL Modem/Router - just over $200 - works like a dream, handles all the
internet sharing, firewalling.

I'm with iinet - very happy.

$79.95 for 512/128 ADSL, 14GB/month quota

I am with iinet on their 'Blink' account...$60 per month 256/128 and their
Perth help is pretty good.

I also am on iinet... pretty good service. If you go with Blink 512 it's a
bit more expensive but the videochat to the UK using iChatAV is fabulous.
(sorry... forgot you are win XP ... heh heh heh... still your mate might
like it.)

Tell him to use a router... just get the one iinet recommend. I got a
d-link 504 from them and it makes setup pretty easy (although I had to
flashh the firmware to get iChat working perfectlly). New routers should
be uptodate firmware wise though.

I have a Netgear DG814, I would recommend one of those over d-link products :)

I'm with TPG @ $70 for unlimited 256/64...best thing is that you get a
static IP and can use a router/modem for extra users...if you buy the
router/modem off them they'll configure it but you'll need a PC to
configure it yourself...
