Hi All, I had been using Yahoo Messenger with no problem: G3 "Beige", OS8.6 and CarbonLib 1.6. After updating YM from 2.5.2 to the current 2.5.3, it worked well for two days, and this morning it started playing up big time: on connection it hard crashed my Mac. Reverting to 2.5.1 (lost the 2.5.2 installer) and trashing preferences did nothing to help. I wonder if anyone has similar experiences and remedies? Thank you. Yahoo Messenger does not put in any extension; at several forums and VT there are a a number of users reporting the same problem, but no solution has yet been discovered. I ran Installer Observer and TechTool Pro 3.0.9 and found nothing suspicious, and I even went as far as replacing the System Folder with my stand-by copy, and the problem still persists. YM 2.5.3 is indeed a very dangerous release, I am not looking forward to this but I might have to wipe all my hard drives and start all over again; that would be a marathon session indeed. The problem was actually with the new Yahoo Messenger protocol at the server end; version 2.5.3 has nothing to do with it at all. Yahoo has fixed the problem and it is working correctly now. Further trawling through more forums, it appears that Mac users who did not update to 2.5.3 also had the same problem; it appears that the new protocol did not work with ANY version of YM for Mac, rather than a problem with 2.5.3.
