G'day,

I have recently purchased a canopus convertor for use with fcpro4. I
am having trouble inputing analog footage. I hook up canopus, open up
Final cut, but when I go into log and capture and select
non-controllable device it states no communication. If I select DV -
Pal it states VTR OK and I can play the analog tapes in the viewer but
at no time when I click on Capture Now does my analog footage get onto
my hard drive?

Any ideas would be excellent, thanks...

Have you loaded the fcp4 update to 4.01

I had a similar problem with my datavideo convertor, and found its most
likely yet another bug in fcp4. To make it go away I had to make sure
the settings are correct under "audio/video" settings, and not rely on
the log and capture

my settings are:

Device Preset: Firewire PAL
Sequence Preset: PAL 48kHz
Capture Preset: PAL 48kHz

When you go into log and capture and hit the capture now button, what
happens?

does the capture preview window get shown?

I am assuming you have set the capture disk to something with lots of space?

Word of warning, dont let fcp4 run out of disk space, when rendering or
capturing, it crashes big time, taking your project with it

Thanks for the reply. I am yet  to get the fcpro4 update but will
soon.

When using a convertor doesnt my device preset need to be set to
Non-Controllable Device? I have tried  this one and FireWire PAL
numerous times but to no avail.  The capture preview does get shown
but all I get is a frozen image of the video I am trying to input.
Disk is not a problem I have heaps of space.

I think my problem lies with the Capture Now function? Last night I
tried to use it without the convertor just a straight dv camera via
firewire to computer hook up and I had the same problem.

???

Thanks...

what hardware are you running?

how much physical memory is available?

On my 1Ghz G4, the capture window is very jerky, and stops dead from
time to time

have you tried to capture with iMovie?

I've got a dual 1.25 Ghz G4 with 1.7GB memory so hopefully the problem
doesnt lie there. I just tried to import the analog footage with
imovie and was successful! It seems the problem is with my fcpro
Capture Now function, it doesnt work with any format dv or analog.
Worth a re-install??

another day, another outage, just another example of the joys of being a
tel$tra broadband hostage....

ok, so its not a hardware resource issue

a reload is always a good move, just be warned that I have found in the
past that the only way to get a stable fcp4 install is to totally
rebuild the machine, which is what I am having to do after making the
big mistake and loading 4.0.2
