Just upgraded, courtesy of a lightning strike to a new desktop. 2.66GHz Intel Mac.

Daughter has iMac G5 also with Airport & Bluetooth that has been connecting to
the 'net by ethernet share. Asks "Can I connect internet through desktop
wirelessly?" I say, "Sure, why not"

Now I say; "Why not?" If it is possible it has eluded my foggy brain.

Can someone point me at a step by step guide on sharing an ADSL router attached
by ethernet port to the desktop wirelessly with a laptop in the same building?

As it's a new computer I'll presume Leopard...

System Preferences,

Sharing

You'll see "Internet Sharing" as an option (but you can't select it yet).

On the RHS "Share your connection from" and select "Ethernet" (the
wired version that goes to your ADSL modem),

and for "To computers using:" select AirPort.

You should be able to select the internet sharing checkbox now.

A word of warning though - I did this for a while for our home network
and found that not being able to reboot whenever I wanted to, and having
to leave the computer on all the time (for other computers to access the
internet) was a bit of a pain.
I gave up and bought and Airport Extreme and couldn't be happier.

Thanks Dale,

That's exactly what I wanted to do. Mac OSX.5 = Leopard? I never could keep the
animals straight without looking them up.
