I've picked on up from my local PC retailer for $AU20 (!)
This is what you're looking for:
a) Must be USB 2.0 - can be generic (i.e.: doesn't have to be a 'name'
brand), &
2) Must be OHCI (not UHCI) compliant ...
FYI: it's "Open" Host Controller Interface *only* that works with Macs,
not "Universal" (which only works with Intel processors (don't know
about the new breed of Macintel machines) ... acronym from memory - but
you're looking for "O", not "U" ...
> Thanks, and have a great Chrissy/Hanukkah/whatever anyways.
Merry Christmas to you and all you love too!

This sounds like good news - many thanks for the advice. Incidentally,
is 'local' anywhere in Sydney? If it is I'll go to the same shop!
Trust the Mac marketplace to make it seem you have to spend $90 on a
Sonnet Card. And the Sonnet's are only twenty-something in the States,
but they won't sell overseas. Mongrels.
Thanks Mike

Nup - regional area - we're talking a real generic card - same
experience with a generic ethernet NIC with a certain Realtek chip ...

No worries, I'm encouraged by the research I've done today: recognising
a number of cards on offer as meeting the requirements you've
described. Thanks for your help.

I've purchased a couple of these from "Sydney Computer Fairs", usually
range between 10 - 15 dollars, clearly marked on packaging if supports
Mac OS's

That's reassuring. I'm sick of the looks one gets for saying "I'm a Mac
user". I'll look out for those Fairs. Thanks Mike
