G'day all - looking for advice.

I've been lucky enough to score 3 Acer Veriton 5600G's through my local
TAFE ...

These will replace my old 600MHz G3 iMac (the power supply blew),
daughter #1's 450MHz G3 iMac (starting to show 'power issues'), and
daughter #2's 350 MHz PowerMac ... it's going to be a Marry Christmas!

BTW - last year , received funding for a MacBook for my son, and
daughters got new fat nanos, plus bought Leopard - so don't worry -
apple inc.'s still making money from my family!

Plus, as I show OSX to non-mac friends (*nix/winxp/vista) - they are
looking with envy ...

Anyway:

I've successfully installed 10.4.11 on one (P4 2.4Ghz Hyper Thread) -
the only issue is the Intel Integrated graphics is not recognised, so
Core Image & Quartz Extreme is not supported ... games fall over, DVD
playing won't ...

So I'm on the hunt for recommendations - they need to work native (or
close to - don't want to 'hack' too much more), and be relatively
economical.

What's the cheapest option? Best value for $ option?

Your input would be gratefully appreciated.

Merry Christmas, and a Happy 2008!

You're kidding, right?  The entire machine needs to be a massive 'hack'
as it is.

Either:

Buy hardware which *properly* supports the OS, like....a Mac.

Run Linux (I ran a dual boot G4 PowerMac with Ubuntu which seemed pretty
good).

Good luck.

Not really - simple install with a moderate amount of patches ... pretty
much everything but video recognised ...

Would love to afford to. Really! if I had the $, I would. This is a
project in recycling - and an intellectual challenge ...

Every six months, I try an install of Ubuntu/OpenSUSE. Everytime, I get
pissed off with the level of 'hacking' required. Making this Hackintosh
is much easier in comparison, and more rewarding.

You too - & Merry Christmas.

Now, can anybody help with suggestions for a graphics card?

Well, you'll be wanting something that was at one time shipped in
a Mac, so one of the older nVidia cards would probably work.  I
believe they had 6600's in some of the G5 iMacs?

Basically just go look at specs of models from a few years ago
and you should be OK.

There are NVidia 7800GS cards that are being flashed to work with Macs.
