ANY ISSUES?? -> I'm About to Upgrade from Panther to Tiger!
I have a Powerbook Ti 1Ghz, 1GB RAM. I'm upgrading from OS X.3 to TIGER
OS X.4 with all the updates.
Are there any issues I need to worry about before I do it? I hear some
people have problems... but I never hear anything specific.
Need to know to avoid any TIGER UPGRADE issues!
TIA!!!!

Google is your friend, too. I didn't have _any_ issues, so you may as
well google as I. ;-)

Like we all did. Good.

Because the issues I have seen tend to be few and focussed around
specific hw/sw issues that are germane only to small numbers of users
and differ with their setups. AFAIR, some may be app-spscific - like
having to upgrade third-party apps. If you are current on those, you
should have very little trouble, and most that run on 10.3.9 will also
run on 10.4.x.

Make sure you have a complete, bootable backup and enough RAM
(512MB+++). Then go for it.

You're welcome.

Leopard will be released soon, so at this stage you might as well skip
Tiger if it is not free or almost free.

Leopard is not out until October I heard that is like 3 months away.

The point was that it is too late in Tiger's life to pay close to full
rice for it. If you can get it free or almost free, by all means.
Otherwise, waiting for Leopard makes more sense. I agree with that.
Obviously, your money so do what you wish. :)

Now you tell me. I thought I needed to pay for Tiger with Uncle Ben's
since that is full rice since it has the hulls. Instead, I could have
gotten away with paying for it with Minute Rice.

Just for anyone else contemplating this upgrade, I have a G3 iMac at
work with 512 Mb RAM. It worked beautifully on Panther. I upgraded it to
Tiger as I did with all my other machines with higher RAM and speed, but
I discovered that Tiger ran much slower on the G3 iMac than Panther with
just 512 mb RAM. Much more swapping. My advice to anyone on a system
like that is to think carefully about whether or not you want to go to
the expense of upgrading the RAM on an older machine, or stick with
Panther, which is a much smaller operating system than Tiger.
Sounds like you are going to be fine with your upgrade on your system.
Who knows exactly when Leopard will be out?

Actually, that's wrong. It's a G4 iMac, not a G3 - but it still runs
slow without enough RAM. By contrast, the G3 iMac my stepson has, with
768 megs of RAM, doesn't seem to have as much problem. The moral seems
to be even a little more RAM can make a big difference. I know my
MacMini with 2 gigs of RAM goes *very* well.

That's good to know. Thanks for passing that along!
