Hi all,
I'm looking to change to broadband now that the daughter has discovered the joys of
the iTunes music store.
I currently have one of those phone/dial-up internet plans with the free local calls
from Optus, and it has been pretty good so far.
The thing is, I work away from home during the week and need to access my account
where I stay. I can do this easily with my existing dial-up account. But I won't be
able to do this with a broadband account. My requirements aren't that high usually,
and the speed jump would be nice, especially for downloading the aforementioned
music and such (11 hours to download an audio book last month).
So, is there possibly some company that offers a broadband connection with a free
dial-up account at a reasonable price? If I'm to pay for the extra downloads (400mb
limit), then I may as well get something better.
I don't want the extra expense of another account for my work place, it would be
false economy.
Any ideas?
Wayne.

I think yu just take a broadband modem with you and set up your other
Mac to access your provider. Note only one connection is allowed at any
one time.

Some broadband providers provide free dial-up access as part of the
package. Find one of them.
I don't think that taking a spare broadband modem with you will do the
trick as ADSL has to specifically be enabled on the phone phone line
you're connecting to.
Depending on where you stay, you may be able to use that
establishments's internet to check your email.

I'm using Optusnet ADSL. I'm sure they offer dialup access to your
account either free or at a minimal charge.

Optus charges an additional $4.95. Here's the relevant page:

G'day
TPG offer dial-up with their ADSL - as I found out when I had trouble
setting up the broadband - rang them & they said that my dial-up would
continue alongside the broadband access. BUT - you can only use one or
the other at a time, not both simultaneously.
Hope that helps

internode.on.net gives you 10 free hours per month of dialup access with
an ADSL account. Any time beyond the 10 hours costs $1 per hour.
Lots of other freebies with Internode too: extra e-mail accounts, web
space, things that are not counted against your download quota
(streaming radio, software mirror, games farm if that's your thing,
premium Usenet news - only one in Australia), etc.
Cheers
