Is it worth it?

Hi all,

I have the option of buying an eMac with a dead monitor. Everything else is fine. My
question are:

1.    Does anyone know the cause of the monitor failures on emacs?

2.    Can they be repaired by repairers outside the Apple network of overcharging
service centres?

If it if worth the repair cost, I'll buy it, but I see no sense in buying something
thet can't be repaired regardless of the spare parts I ight be able to flog off.

TIA

Wayne.

I just sold one with a dead motherboard for $50, I wonder if its the same
one ? How do you know what is wrong with it ? Are you a technician ? If its
the monitor it may be worth repairing but don't pay more than $50 for it is
my advice.

Cheers Andrew

No this one is in Brisbane, the owner has had it since new, 2.5 years ago..

The owner took it to apple to claim a waranty repair only to find she wasn't
covered. Another reason to buy Apple Care. She wasn't about to fork out $500 to get
it fixed.

that's what I'm trying to determine, that is, I know it's the monitor, but what
exactly? I have an impression from talking with the owner that the CRT may need
replacing. I find that hard to believe as I'd expect one of the curcuit boards to
die first.

Pity, I saw the emac you had for sale, Oh well, such is life.

Any other thoughts out there?

Wayne.
