My internal zip drive has out lived its purpose. I no longer use it and

was exploring the possibility of replacing it with an IDE DVD drive (or

perhaps an IDE hard drive) in addition to the one that's in the top
bay.
Just fishing for some feedback on those of you that have a two DVD
combo?

I have IDE hard drive fitted underneath the DVD drive in my G4 Sawtooth
tower. It works OK but it is slower compared to other drives due to slower
bus (ATA).

I am about to install SATA PCI card and swap out 2 out of my 3 ATA HD to
SATA.
Cheers
A.

I'd be interested to know which brand/model PCI SATA card you intend to
install? I'd rather go with something I know has been proven to work
without issues...

BTW, your old dual 1.8's are still humming along nicely ;)

I've used the Seritek cards without problems for well over a year now.

I placed an order for SIIG SATA PCI card
http://www.siig.com/product.asp?catid=115&pid=556. According to reviews it
works as advertised.
I also bought 2 Maxtor 250 Gig SATA drives. Here is Segate v Maxtor
comparison http://www.amug.org/amug-web/html/amug/reviews/articles/seagate/

PS, good to hear about Giga dual upgrade.
Andy

PS, do you need a video card?

I have a third IDE HD in a G4 500DP Gigabit ethernet no probs. I also
put a new fan in the PS as these seem to slow get noisey after a while.

I added a superdrive (lacie) to my G4 which I bought with a combo
drive. I moved the old combo into 2nd place. Easy job, and both work
fine (you have to remove the facia plate from the lacie).
