Hotmail on Mail

Hi ... I'm running OS 10.3.9 on my G4 Gigabite.

I have 2 mail accounts ... one with hotmail.com (the free version) ...
the other with tpg.com.au

I use Apple's Mail application to open my tpg account ... however I have
been unsuccessful in trying to get my hotmail account to open in Mail.

Does anyone have the correct setting so I can run hotmail via Mail?

Cheers

I don't think you can open Hotmail accounts with anything other than
Microsoft Outlook or a web browser. You can access yahoo.com.au accounts
using Mail though.

You can access Yahoo accounts????  I thought it was only the ones you
pay for (Mail Plus) that you can access via POP.

They're 'free' because you're supposed to see all the banners and crap.

I still have free POP access via www.yahoo.com.au

personally, I prefer gmail which has free pop and smtp.

Don't believe everything you read. Yahoo.com.au accounts have free POP
access. Yahoo.com accounts do not, as far as I recall.

So does yahoo.com.au. You can use smtp.mail.yahoo.com.au if you want.
Personally I just use my ISP's smtp server.

Actually, it was so long ago that I registered with yahoo.com.au that I
forgot something important. To get POP access you  have to say you are
willing to receive advertising emails from them from time to time. Then
you have to nominate the categories of advertising you want to receive.
Of course there weren't any categories that interested me.

I should have said that I prefer gmail over yahoo.com.au because yahoo.com.au
basically double the size of the email with their advertising...

I've never received an advertisement in my yahoo mail delivered by POP.

You don't get little yahoo ads at the bottom of your text emails? I noticed it doesn't add them
to html emails...

e.g.

Find local movie times and trailers on Yahoo! Movies.

No, try sending me one and I'll send one back to you.

The only messages I see are from people who have Yahoo accounts, I
assume they are sending text mails from their web browser, not an email
client.

I sent myself a plain text message using Mail. Came back to me the same
as I sent it. No additional advertising.

I sent one back to the address you sent it from, just did it again, to
be sure to be sure.

I tried to set up Mail to access a freebie yahoo.com.au account, and it
failed.

What do you define as your incoming mail server?

First of all you have to go to mail options in your yahoo account and
set it up for email forwarding and POP access. if you don't want to
receive emails from yahoo's advertisers, don't select any categories of
advertising to receive. easy.

Thanks everybody for your input ... the story so far ... info from the
FAQ site from www.automagic-software.com re httpmail states ........

1. The plugin doesn't work and when I click on the ! icon I see
something telling me I need to upgrade to Hotmail Plus, what's going on?

Microsoft has recently decided to start charging for WebDav access to
Hotmail. This will affect all newly created accounts, however some
people with older Hotmail accounts will still be able to connect using
the plugin as it is taking Microsoft quite some time to convert all the
accounts over to their new system. If you are seeing this error then the
only way to make the plugin with with your account is to "upgrade" to
Hotmail Plus.

So it looks like I'm out of luck (unless I upgrade) ... I'll just
continue going back thru Hotmail web site to read my mail.

regards

Luisa

As I said Hotmail Plus you have to pay. Don't listen to Jason, he
inhabits this group just to oppose anything anyone says. He can't help
it. Bad RAM I reckon.

And of course, there's the pathetic c.nts like yourself that use a variety of identities to
hide behind.

I suggested an ISP-independent email service, which is a better solution than anything that
comes out of your putrifying brain.

As for Hotmail, IMHO Microsoft can't run a decent Internet service, be it MSN or Hotmail.

gmail is a better service, it's free, and it has pop and smtp access.

BTW. The phrase 'pathetic c.nts' is a plural subject, therefore it
should have been "there are pathetic c.nts".

That'll help your grammar, sorry I can't do much for you poor taste in
words.
