Anyone I need help on booting an iMac G5 into OS9. I simply cant work on the
bloated slow piece of sh.t called MacOSX. I need this to be working before I
go back to college at the end of this week. I hear new intel apples are
booting windows. well I am not surprised as OSX may as well be windows for
all its usefulness is. Once I used to own a car that was unique. it had
great suspension a good sized boot and features just made for australian
conditions. It was the best car I owned yet I only had it for 2 years. When
it died I was saddened as a great car had gone and it was already more than
a decade old by the time I bought it new. But you know it was better than
anything else I've made today. Seems to me everything today is made to be
harder for the consumer and nothing but easier for the companies that make
them. This is why you dont see a leyland on the roads but people will drive
commodores newer but still not up to the level of the old leyland. That was
a company that did its research like apple used to but then steve came along
and broke everything. That thinking leaves a great looking computer running
a piece of sh.t I call WindOSX.

You cannot boot an iMac G5 into OS9, simple as that. What you can do is
install the Classic environment and run OS9 (aka Classic) applications from
that.

The last desktop machines to boot OS9 were G4 towers, can´t remember which
one, but I´m sure a bit of Googling would supply the details. Then you
could look on the used market, if you have such a need.

By no stretch of the imagination is Mac OS X on an iMac G5, slow. Clearly
the problem lies between the chair and the keyboard.

And no, you can't boot OS 9 on an iMac G5, thankfully.

Now, sell your iMac G5 to someone with a brain, buy a windows PC, and begone fool.

That response is a bit harsh, but then one could be forgiven for
believing you deserved it.  Take a step back and take a deep breath.  If
you have an iMac G5, you must be running at least Panther (10.3) if not
Tiger (10.4), and I have to agree with the above individual.  The
computers were made for the OS, there is clearly something wrong if it's
running slow.  I'm running Tiger on a G4 iMac, 700mhz, and while I do
wish it were faster, it's more than tolerable.  It's a bit of a job, but
you might try re-installing the system.  There are several ways to go
about it, and a number of sources around to guide you through the maze.
I have found the online manuals, "Take Control of ..." at US$5.00 a pop
to be a real steal.  http://www.takecontrolbooks.com/  And if you are
using Panther, and they don't list those books anymore, send them an
email.  I guess they'd be happy to supply them.

How much memory do you have in your iMac G5?  I'm not sure what you're
calling slow - yes things don't click into being instantly, but there's a
reason for it, as the on-screen experience is rendered in something akin to
PDF.
