Hi all,
I want to upgrade a PowerBook "Pismo"s DVD rom drive to DVD/CD-RW. Can I use
any brand that is available? Will the system OSX 10.3 find it if I replace
it with something new? I use Toast to burn on my other computer and it seems
to find external drives.
TIA

The short answer is yes - the long answer is that you may want to try
and match the brand you have so that you can have a hope of fitting the
front panel off the drive - failing that - like me, you can just have
the bare drive front visible, but a drive that functions fine.

You may want to grab patchburn:

And have a look at the drive database at:

To see other people's experiences - it would appear that the Matsushita
UJDA 7xx series is the simplest, but many have had success with Toshiba
drives also.
