Which Mac? :)
The best DVD burners are made by Pioneer, the DVR-108D is excellent value.

Best buy for what its worth for your budget is Pioneer 108, You can buy one
from MSY www.msy.com.au for $128, they¹ll work in Macintosh and PCs.
With Pioneer DVD drives, Apple supports them as they use them in their G4s
and G5s
Never had problems with Pioneer 108 in my G4 Gigabit machine.

Grab the Pioneer 108 or A08. They don¹t work with iMovie, iDVD, iTunes etc
etc yet though. You can download PatchBurn off versiontracker to fix that
problem, haven¹t tried it on my 108 drive so not sure how well it works.
Anyone know where to get dual layer DVD-R discs in Aus?

I haven't seen them anywhere so far. IMHO, unless you need to make a DVD-9, the regular
4x DVD-Rs are much better value.

I have an external 108 in a firewire case, if you use the
dvdbackup/toast(latest version) combination you will get perfect dvds that
work in most players (all mine anyway) :), the only drawback is the cost of
the DL blanks. But this will come down. There is little reason to mount the
drive internally at the moment, owing to the lack of OS support so far, but
with the software I use it works the same in or outside the mac. ( I have a
single layer in my mac)
Cheers Andrew

Re: internal dual layer burners for macThanks guys.
I have some new info. Apparently, wheteher its internal or external you need something called "Tooth" for it to burn dual layer withour problems. What's your views on this please. My friend has a E-Mac G4 just in case you were wondering.

I have a dual layer DVD+ or - burner, but I don't have software on the
iMac to run it. Using the Nero software that came with it on the laptop
PC, I burned a DVD+ dual layer DVD that was about 8 megs. It seems to
play OK on the PC, but the only problem is that on the DVD player, it
gags at a certain point and won't go on.
This is pretty unsatisfactory, as is the fact that the only DVD blanks
available (DVD+Rs) are over $12 a throw. Makes no sense when you can get
good standard ones - DVD-R - for a dollar a pop if you know where and
want no frills. It just means I have to use 2 DVD-R blanks instead of
one - but I would on occasions like to ave it all on one disc.
