Hi all,

Just wondering if any Mac users with Airport Express have got it to work
with their D-Link DSL-300 modem? I have such a setup and cannot get it
to connect to the net. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone out
there who has managed to perform this 'miracle'.

Regards,

Hi David

The DLink DSL-300 won't work with Airport at all.
I've spent many an hour trying to get them to work, as have a lot of
other consultants I know, and although sometimes you can get them to
work on an "on-off" occassion overall, they just don't.

You're better off to sell it off and get something like the Netcomm
NB1300 or another DLInk model (DSL-504G) or similar.

I think it has something to do with the DSL-300 board and it won't let
you share it.

Hope that info helps.

Kind Regards
Daniel Kerr

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for your reply.

I really thought I was going mad with this modem. I was on Whirlpool, the
Apple Support forums, and here trying to round up anyone who had knew of a
way or if it was even possible for the DSL-300 to work with Airport Express.
I must've put about 40 hours into trying to nut out a method of getting it
to work. I was told the DSL-300 needed to use a PPPoA connection, and I had
to assign a manual IP to it. Basically I had to 'trick' it -- God knows if I
had to do this with every re-connection -- which to me goes against the
ease-of-use attraction to Apple products. Someone suggested there was some
kind of firmware patch I could use to make the DSL-300 stop fighting for a
specific IP address which the Express needed. I just wanted it to be easy.
It started to feel like a PC as I performed low-level 'Windows Registry'
type manoeuvres trying to get it to work. Ridiculous.

I concur, this isn't going to get off the ground. Thank you for confirming
that and for your suggestions. What modem are you using with Express?

Regards,

David L.
