Has anyone any issues to report with 10.3.5??  The updates are
certainly rolling out fast ... and yet my icons are still flakey!

No problems with it over here. And it finally fixed the seriously poor
performance of opengl on my 12" pBook too.

Now I cannot mount an older Macinstosh that is networked. Nor will that
older Mac connect using Chooser. Tonight I will be rebuilding to
10.3.4.

One rotten apple?

Update: It's more complex than I thought. I can mount an even older Mac
running 8.5, but the not-quite-so older one running 9.2.2 cannot
maintain a connection - it mounts and then "unexpectedly" loses its
connection. 8.5 and 9.2.2 still chat happily to eachother.

Easy to fix: download "Share Points" and in it there's an Appletalk
switch that turns the old style Appletalk communication on so that
older computers can see Mac OS X

Hmmm. I was going to report that I just installed the Combo on 3 iMacs
and had no difficulties at all. But then I remembered that when I was
trying to connect via ethernet from an old beige G3 to a 1.2 Ghz iMac
after installing the Combo on the latter, I couldn't see the new iMac on
the system. I was doing other things at the time so forgot about it. Now
I better check it again (at work.)

And always run a permissions fix in Disk Utility before upgrading.

Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get me :-)

Jeanne's story is warning enough. As far as I can see, the 10.3.5
improvements don't cover anything in my set-up. My teeth are white.

Actually, I think 10.3.4 may have still fried an external fw drive of
mine...

ouch not a good sign, lose much?

as for me, after losing 212GB with 10.3, all my firewire drives are
hanging off my Linux server, accessed from the mac via gigabit ethernet

What do both of u use the older machines for?

OK, after a long day & night I finally got my systems back how I want
them. BUT I had to rebuild the OSX machine from scratch (I stopped at
10.3.3) and also the old machine that was running 9.2.2 is now at 9.1.
The ancient 7300 running 8.5 survived the ordeal.

To answer witt's question, I prefer to keep an old machine to run os9
in its true form, rather than the classic emulation (my G4 is too new
to boot from true os9). I still have old software I am happy with, so
why should I pay good money for nothing. The oldest machine runs an old
A3 serial printer and has been demoted to the kitchen table, linked up
by a long ethernet cable. But I find I still use it, and toy with Linux
(though without distinction). But I appreciate it's no-thrills
appearance, especially as Apple is so narcissictic these days. I hope
that answers the question.

It has been a worrying couple of days, and I am relieved to still have
my machines working. But shakey still. BE WARNED.

Jeanne.

it...u & Nikki ought to have a pow wow...

Hi witt

Yes I've watched Jeanne's posts, and we do seem to have similar setups.
However I'm content (without schadenfreud) to have avoided sharing that
mishap. I'll have a go with the combo update, once I've done a
scrupulous backup! Meanwhile I've had a slanging match in another group
for being unpatriotic about Panther! Hey Ho!

Bonjour Jeanne. Nous aimons tour les deux les macs classique. Mais
essayez celui-ci:

et bonne chance - or good luck if I'm mistaken. Udachi!

Hi witt

Sure, my blood is still RED even if the rest of the world has turned
blue.  And I'll do my best to be good - just gotta get that BLACK CAT
to behave itself. I'm applying the combo patch tonight. Stand by for
screams and cursing ...

Or be good at it...
