I have a Lacie FW CD-RW drive (32*8*4), and am keen to speed it up......
according to Toast, the guts of it are a Matshita CD-RW CW-7586.

a few questions.....

can I go out, grab an IDE CD-RW drive, pop it in the FW case, fire and
forget, hoping Toast doesn't notice :)

is there a certain type of drive I'll need?

does OSX natively recognize certain drives? do I need third party
drivers??

any help would be appreciated, I don't anticipate any help at stores
selling bare IDE drives - ie PC stores --- or mac stores!

I bought a Sony CRX-210E1 for $95. Worked instantly in Toast  5.

You may need a hacked driver... I did.

I downloaded the hacked driver for my Sony, and it works perfectly in the Finder.
