I recently installed Stuffit Expander (9.01) on my eMac running Tiger.
I changed some of the File Mapping preferences within the program so
that downloads from Safari would be automatically handled. However, I
now find that many text files will launch Expander where before they
launched TextEdit. Any files with a .txt extension are ok, but files
such as .log or files without an extension (transfered from an old mac)
launch Expander. This happens even if the file has a text document
icon.

There doesn't seem to be any way to revert back to default settings in
the Stuffit preferences, and I can't find any System preferences which
control this.

I've tried opening the file using the contextual menu " always open
with" TextEdit box checked but it doesn't seem to stick beyond the
first launch and only applies to that file.

Any ideas?

To answer my own question (!) the solution is to change the "open with"
preferences in the file's Get Info window then click the "Change All"
button.
