No matter what I do, nothing I set on the Equalizer makes any
difference. The sound does not change at all. Reinstalling does not
help. Does anyone else have this problem?

(I'm running iTunes 4.8 under Tiger)

It seems to be working for me OK (same versions as you), so you might
try this:  Quit iTunes, and go into your User folder -> Library ->
Preferences.  Find an item named "com.apple.iTunes.eq.plist" and throw
it in the trash.

Restart iTunes and see if that's any better.

I did that.

It wasn't.
