I just received my family pack of Tiger.  Unfortunately its a DVD and two of
my laptops don't read that media.  My Mini will so I'm wondering how I can
take this dvd, using the Mini, and convert it to a readable format by an
800mhz iBook and a 366mhz iBook.  I have never tried to transfer media like
this so please forgive me if its a really easy thing to do.

Get a FireWire cable if you don't have one. Boot the iBooks in target
disk mode (hold down T as they're starting) plug them into the mini and
install from there. Will definitely work on the 800. I think the 366
supports target disk mode.

Alternatively, Apple has a $10 trade-in program to get CDs.

There's nothing quite like the joy of first hearing an Alvin & the Chipmunks
cover of Pink Floyd's "The Final Cut." "Not Now John" is especially sublime.

Thanks, the target-mode method worked very well.

I'm not certain, but can't you install on the laptops by attaching them
via Firewire to the main machine which can read the DVD and using
target disk mode?

I didn't think about that initially but tried it on Gregory's recommendation
and it worked like a charm.  Thanks.

Yup, his advice is right on.  Thanks for the followup to let us know!
