Go to iTunes>Preferences>Advanced and see if the "copy files to iTunes Music
folder when adding to library" is checked. If so then it sounds like you
physically moved the files to the Mac hd but then by using the Add to
Library command iTunes created a new file. Did you place all of the music
files in the location specified by iTunes (usually
Users>You>Music>iTunes>iTunes Music ?

Nope. Shagged them from the shared directory on the PC using the "add
library" function. I can see itunes copying the files twice directly
into the itunes directory. Its as if the SMB share was reporting the
files names on the PC twice.
